Road surface repairs on the horizon
20 September 2017
Two kilometres of road between Devon Hills and Perth, in the Perth to Breadalbane Duplication project, will be resealed in the coming months.
While the aim is always to build road projects without any defects, for a range of reasons they do sometimes occur. When this does happen, the defects are rectified as soon as possible, without compromising the safety of road users.
In this case, the stone chips in the seal failed to adhere to the bitumen, leading to the stone coming loose in some sections. To fix the road surface an additional layer of spray seal now needs to be laid, and this process requires warmer temperatures so the bitumen remains hot enough to hold the aggregate.
The Department of State Growth is applying normal contract management processes to ensure these repairs are undertaken. We understand community frustration on this issue and thank road users for their patience.
Road surface repairs will be undertaken during the first window of suitable weather this spring.
